Explore what we offer
Therapeutic Riding
Adaptive riding instruction for children and adults with physical, cognitive, or developmental differences. Led by a PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and supported by trained volunteers and carefully matched horses, our lessons are tailored to each rider's individual abilities and goals — building strength, balance, and coordination, as well as confidence and connection along the way.
Equine-Assisted Learning
Working alongside horses, in a structured program led by certified equine specialists, you'll build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and confidence — at your own pace, in nature, without a couch in sight. Suitable for adults, teens, and families. No riding experience required.
Boarding
Premier full-care horse boarding on 50 waterfront acres in Calvert County. Our 14-stall barn features hot-water wash stations, climate-controlled tack and feed rooms, and a 72×200 lighted indoor arena alongside an equally large outdoor arena. With owners on-site and limits on the number of boarders, every horse gets the personal attention it deserves.
Events
The beautiful country setting, nestled on the banks of Saint Leonard Creek, offers versatile indoor and outdoor spaces for events large or small. Come see how this gorgeous working farm provides a refreshing escape from the ordinary.
What Our Clients Are Saying
“As a parent, I cannot say enough wonderful things about the horseback riding program at Still Waters Refuge. My son looks forward to every lesson all week long, and it has truly become the highlight of his week. The trainers are kind, patient, and encouraging. I especially appreciate how they praise what my son does well and gently guide him when corrections are needed. At the end of each lesson, the trainers thoughtfully point out his accomplishments, which has been wonderful for building confidence and learning techniques. In my son’s words he is “not only learning, but is having fun!” It is a welcoming and supportive environment where safety is a top priority. We are so grateful and blessed to be part of it.”
— L., parent of client, Charlotte Hall, MD“It’s been an amazing experience overall. I’m learning new riding techniques that I’ve never done before like riding the diagonal and the sidepass. My talking has improved very significantly when it comes to my stuttering. I look forward to my lessons every single time I go there.”
— L., client, Prince Frederick, MD“You will not find a better boarding facility than Still Waters Refuge! Ever since moving my horses here they have been happier and healthier. Christi and her husband have been nothing but welcoming and do everything they can to make sure all the horses are well taken care of. The facilities themselves are top-notch and beautiful. I’m so glad we found a new place for our horses to call home and that my daughter and I look forward to going to regularly.”
